Established in 1948, Douglas Laing & Co is an independent bottler of Scotch based in Glasgow. Big Peat is part of its Remarkable Regional Malts, a range of blended malts aimed at showcasing the remarkable qualities of each Scotch region's malt whiskies. Big Peat focuses on the Islay region, and is a blend of malts from Ardbeg, Coal Ila, Bowmore and Port Ellen. The 26 Year Old has a maritime nose, with charred barbecued meat and bonfire embers which lead into sweeter aromas of raisins, prunes, and honey drizzled porridge. A palate that's sweet and salty, with sea spray and milk chocolate, liquorice, with lots of bonfire ash and smoky, earthy peat. The finish has lots of woody spice, orange peel and long peat note. Best enjoyed neat.
