Established in 1948, Douglas Laing & Co is an independent bottler of Scotch based in Glasgow. Big Peat is part of its Remarkable Regional Malts, a range of blended malts aimed at showcasing the remarkable qualities of each Scotch region's malt whiskies. Big Peat focuses on the Islay region, and is a blend of malts from Ardbeg, Coal Ila, Bowmore and Port Ellen. A tangy peat nose with hints of chocolate, coffee, nuts and spice. The palate is simple but enjoyable – peat, smoke, cut grass, nuts and spice. The finish has sea salt notes with smoke. Great neat, this whisky won the top prize in its category in the 2010 World Whisky Awards.
