Established in 1948, Douglas Laing & Co is an independent bottler based in Glasgow. Big Peat is part of its Remarkable Regional Malts, a range of blended malts aimed at showcasing the remarkable qualities of each Scotch region's malt whiskies. Big Peat focuses on the Islay region, and this particular expression is the 2019 release of its annual Christmas Edition. Made with malts from Islay, including Port Ellen, this is bottled at 53.7%. As the name suggests, expect BIG peat. On the nose, heavily toasted oak, salted caramel and faint sea air. The palate, big smoke but not one dimensional. More caramel but with stone fruits. The finish sea salt breeze with baking spice. Serve neat, great after a heavy Christmas meal.
