Established in 1948, Douglas Laing & Co is an independent bottler based in Glasgow. Recently renamed Rock Island, Rock Oyster is part of its Remarkable Regional Malts, a range of blended malts aimed at showcasing the remarkable qualities of each Scotch region's malt whiskies. The Rock Oyster range focuses on malts from the Scottish islands, namely Islay, Arran, Orkney and Jura. This is a cask strength version with a limited release of 8400. Large amounts of salt, sea air and dry cereal on the nose. The palate is punchy with the extra alcohol but still very drinkable. Peat smoke, vanilla oak tannins, all there. The finish has a touch of floral notes, but the smoke is ever present.
