Campbeltown used to be THE whisky capital of the world, with over 30 distilleries. But today, there are only three, the largest of which is Springbank, which is another firm favourite amongst whisky connoisseurs. The Springbank 18YO has been aged in ex-bourbon barrels, and thanks to the town's close proximity to the coast, its also has coastal brine/oily notes. A nose of banana, honey and cherry tarts with coastal hints. A oily texture makes the palate pleasant, with big spice, hints of pine and rich fruits. The oak supports all the flavours and comes through on the long finish. Fabulous neat.
