Established in 1948, Douglas Laing & Co is an independent bottler based in Glasgow. The Gauldrons is part of its Remarkable Regional Malts, a range of blended malts aimed at showcasing the remarkable qualities of each Scotch region's malt whiskies. The Gauldrons range focuses on malts from Campbeltown, once the biggest whisky-producing region in Scotland. This comes in at 46.2% ABV, non-chill filtered, with no added colouring. A sweet cereal nose with iodine and sweet spices apparent. The palate has the classic oily and salt flavours of Campbeltown, with a touch of spice also. The palate is also big with the coastal flavours, peat smoke and a lovely caramel note. The finish has vanilla and the peat and smoke make another appearance. A wonderful dram.
