The founder of Compass Box, John Glazer, set up the company in 2000 because he felt too many people were selling whisky the same way. Thanks to his belief that blending creates something greater than the sum of its parts, Compass Box is now regarded as one of the great blending houses of the modern age. Their whiskies are all non-chill-filtered and without added colouring, regardless of whether it is a malt or grain whisky. This is the 6th release from the Flaming Heart series. When is it was first launched back in 2006 it was genre defying, smoldering, spice-y and complex. This edition uses some sherry influenced blended malt. The nose has lots of sea air and fiery peat (thanks Caol Ila!), but balanced nicely with honey, malt and vanilla pod. The palate has a lot going on with smoke alongside Christmas Spices with a touch of raisin. The finish is oat-y, butter and orange, touch of cloves also.
