This iconic hazelnut liqueur has been made for over 300 years by monks in the Piedmont region of Italy. The unusual bottle shape and rope is reminiscent of the outline of a monk. The hazelnuts are harvested, toasted, crushed and then macerated in water and alcohol. After distillation, it is blended with other flavours to create a concentrate. This is then mixed with water, sugar and alcohol to bottling strentgh. Finally, it is laid down for 6-8 weeks to marry, then bottled. Intense nutty aromas and sweetness. Hints of vanilla, coffee, chocolate and a light nutty character makes this very drinkable. A smooth long finish makes this great for after dinner drinks and in cocktails. Try this long with soda and a squeeze of lime. Very interesting and different.
