Glenallachie was recently bought into private ownership and has the renowned Billy Walker (the master distiller who made Glendronach what it is today) at the helm. This is an amazing scotch, aged in two different sized sherry casks, (butt and puncheon), which previously held Olorosso and Pedro Ximenez sherries. The result is the crown jewel of Glenallachie's core range. A exceptional balance between the character of the spirit and the barrel influence. A gorgeous nose of raisin, butterscotch and sweet spice. The taste is that of Christmas spices, ginger and raisins. This develops into bananas, orange peel and dark chocolates with walnut nuttiness. The finish is similar to coffee, rose/orange and saline. Exceptional.
