Bruichladdich's Octomore has been casuing waves since it was first launched. Each series varies in it raw materials and what it wants to show case. High PPM is also the bigger characteristic of the series. This Islay Barley edition use barley from just on. At only 88 PPM this is a softer smoke then the usual peat bomb. 3 years old and aged in heavily-toasted virgin Limousin oak casks. This has a different level of smoke and flavour. On the nose there is rich chocolate, tobacco, bonfire smoke, leather. Vanilla custard, blueberry, dry straw and pear drops. The palate has warming, spicy – mulled wine. Leather and tobacco, malt sugar, icing sugar. All wrapped in earthy peaty smoke. Dry on the palate. The finish is long but the oak is more apparent as the ppm drops with age.
