Bruichladdich's Port Charlotte 10YO expression is the distillery's 'heavily peated' expression, but it isn't its MOST peated. That title falls to another of the distillery's ranges. However, with an impressive 40ppm, the Port Charlotte 10YO will still satisfy the many lovers of peated Scotch. Made from 100% Scottish Barley, aged for 10 years and bottled at 50% ABV, the maturation of the casks by the sea adds a touch of the maritime to the nose and palate. That maritime quality helps with the big smoke that first hits your nostrils. Not only does it help balance it out but it also harmonizes the oak, smoke and spirit. Once you get past the oak and smoke, you are hit with a plethora of flavours and aromas, ranging from baked deserts and woody spices to light citrus and saltiness. The finish is long and the smoke comes and goes, mixed with fruit and oak. A classic Islay malt, one for true fans of peaty whisky.
