Back in 1998 after a 5 year refit Benromach Distillery was reopened. Owned by the Urquharts (the family who also own and run Gordon & Macphail) This Speyside distillery is steeped in tradition. It was traditional before commerical maltings to add a touch of peat to the fires to give the whisky a distinct touch of smoke. Benromach stick to this lost style. Made with heavily peated malt and aged in only first-fill bourbon barrels. it has aromas of vanilla, honey, smoked meats, apricot, lemon and soft tobacco on the nose. The palate offers notes of black pepper, strawberries, orange, aniseed and billowing bonfire smoke. A long finish of bonfire embers and sweet smoke.
