Wolfburn, Scotland's northernmost mainland distillery, released its first single malt in 2016, and they have been making waves ever since. This award-winning whisky is made in a very traditional way with a long fermentation and slow distillation, while during maturation, the casks are stacked no more than 3 barrels high. Non-chill filtered with no added colouring, the distillery bottles and labels everything by hand all by themselves. The Langskip is aged in first-filled ex-bourbon casks and then bottled at 58% ABV. Big and bold! On the nose, you get demerara sugar, gingerbread, malt and white pepper. Dried fruit on the palate ( think sultana and apricots), nutty with walnut and macadamia. A good helping of nutmeg and stem ginger. The finish has apple sweetness and fading black pepper spice. Great on ice or with soda for a highball with oomph.
