The Sakurao distillery was actually founded with the intention of making whisky, but as with many other modern distilleries they started out by making a gin first. This limited edition expression is made with 17 botanicals from the land and sea surrounding Hiroshima, including Japanese juniper berries, oyster shells, wasabi and Hinoki. On the nose, citrus peels, balanced by a sea air and dry juniper earthiness. Juniper is central on the palate, though the savoury elements remain detectable. A kick of white pepper spiciness appears later on. A cool finish with mint and juniper. Use in a Martini!
